What becomes possible when we “walk a mile” in our own shoes?

Take some time to craft a story of self-empathy by making your own unique pair of slippers.

Wouldn’t it be great to put more of your time and energy into feeling good about yourself?

How about taking the megaphone away from your "inner critic” who is quick to jump on the loudhailer when things aren’t going great?

If you’re anything like me, you find it waaaaay easier to show empathy and grace towards others’ mistakes. You’d never say the kinds of things to someone else that you say to yourself!

So in this workshop we’re going to turn the old adage “walk a mile in someone’s shoes”, on it’s head. Instead of “someone else’s shoes” we’re going to take some time to welcome in a part of ourselves we've found hard to accept and love. By "walking a mile" in their moccasins we'll get a chance to better understand some of those shadow parts of ourselves to grow our self-empathy.

Taking all those personal and creative insights we’re going to craft our very own unique pair of slippers so we can literally embrace ourselves with a snug foot hug of acceptance!

I’m delighted to be bringing this unique workshop to you at the magical Gembrook Retreat, so you can…

Take a breather,

Connect with yourself and the land and

Craft something you can literally wear around every day!

Here’s all the deets…

  • Our time together will include a guided visualisation to dive deep into your creative unconcious, personal creative time, space for connecting and chatting, and the hands on making time… Oh and of course there’ll be time to grab a cuppa and have a wander on the land too.

  • We’ll guide you through every step of the felting process so you leave with your slippers made. Your soles will be ready to sew on once the felt has dried.

  • Beginners are most welcome. Some physical activity is required.

  • $99 includes all materials, equipment and a cuppa.

  • Slippers will be made from 100% wool tops and leather soles.

  • Just a 45-90 minute drive from most of Melbourne, Gembrook Retreat’s newly completed Meeting House is a divine blend of old and new world.*

Are you in?

You’d pay $75+ on Etsy to buy a pair of felt slippers… And there’s no guarantee they’re going to fit you snug as a bug OR be the colour that you want!

Instead, spend the afternoon with us and you’ll get:

  • guidance to take a gentle journey into your creative unconscious.

  • direction, individual support and input to craft your slippers.

  • time to connect with like-hearted travellers.

  • to learn the skills and processes of wet felting. AND

  • the satisfaction of wearing your own unique creation.

The investment: Just $99

We’ve only got 8 places available and you deserve (nay NEED) a day to yourself.

Remember….

When we take a moment to “walk a mile in our own shoes” we create new possibilities for self-empathy and renewed energy!

Questions?

What is Gembrook Retreat?

Gembrook Retreat is a 22-acre property on Boon Wurrung/Wurundjeri country, given in trust as a place of spiritual retreat and renewal. The newly completed Meeting House has plenty of space where we can craft, connect, ponder and chill together. It has composting toilets, running water and a fully equipped kitchen.

How do I get to Gembrook Retreat’s Meeting House?

*Our glorious venue is a 45-90 minute drive from most parts of Melbourne. Make a day of it, stopping for brunch at my favourite cafe in Emerald, The General Store (and no I don’t have any affiliation!).

You are welcome to arrive at Gembrook Retreat, ANY time from 1pm to have a wander and settle in before our starting time of 1.30pm.

The Meeting House at Gembrook Retreat is a 50ish-metre walk from the carpark, down a hillside across the paddock. There is only 4wd access to the House, so bring your paddock bashing shoes and a raincoat if it’s wet. We want to make the event as accessible as possible, so if you need transport from your car to the Meeting House, please get in touch before booking your ticket so we can ensure it’s possible. The Meeting House itself is designed to be fully accessible.

Do you have any discounts available?

We’re so glad you asked. YES! We’d like to offer 1-2 reduced/no cost tickets so folks without the means can still benefit. Please get in touch if you’re in this situation and we’ll shoot a ticket your way.

Do I have to do the soul work or can I just get straight to the sole work?

I get it… signing up to something where you’re being asked to get deep and meaningful can feel uncomfortable when you don’t know me! And If you’re thinking “I just want to make the slippers” and leave the rest, don’t worry. We’re not going to be asking anyone to spill their guts or spend all afternoon reflecting. We’ll take a short trip into our creative unconscious to find the magic within; have a short time for writing/drawing/sharing and then we’ll jump into crafting our slippers. I create a safe space for every individual to journey where they are willing to go.

If you’re keen, there’ll be plenty of space to contemplate and connect while we’re crafting our slippers. If you’re not, you can chat about whatever takes your fancy!

Urgh! Toxic positivity? No thanks!

I’ve got a huge radar for toxic positivity which comes in the form of “here’s the answer to your deepest struggles” or “just say this mantra daily and you’ll suddenly feel great”. There’s a lot of folks out there offering some form of quick fix to the complex journey of being ourselves in this big world. I’m not one of them! So expect encouragement and support to journey gently within, to gift yourself a few moments of connection, without any spoken or unspoken pressure to “be” anything other than just how you are.

Just a friendly reminder - we’ve only got 8 places available… so you best get to it if you want a spot.
