Human Connection
The opportunity to craft in community with others was a really special experience. Complete strangers coming together for an afternoon, and by the end- sharing deeply with each other. That’s the power of human connection…

Questions?
What is Gembrook Retreat?
Gembrook Retreat is a 22-acre property on Boon Wurrung/Wurundjeri country, given in trust as a place of spiritual retreat and renewal. The newly completed Meeting House has plenty of space for us to meet together. It has composting toilets, running water and a fully equipped kitchen.
How do I get to Gembrook Retreat’s Meeting House?
*Our glorious venue is a 45-90 minute drive from most parts of Melbourne. Feel free to pack a picnic lunch and stay on after our workshop finishes.
The Meeting House at Gembrook Retreat is a 50ish-metre walk from the carpark, down a hillside across the paddock. There is only 4wd access to the House, so bring your paddock bashing shoes and a raincoat if it’s wet. We want to make the event as accessible as possible, so if you need transport from your car to the Meeting House, please get in touch before booking your ticket so we can ensure it’s possible. The Meeting House itself is designed to be fully accessible.
Do you have any discounts available?
We’re so glad you asked. YES! We’d like to offer 1-2 reduced/no cost tickets so folks without the means can still benefit. Please get in touch if you’re in this situation and we’ll shoot a ticket your way.
I don’t really want to make a doll or figure. Can I do something else?
You don’t literally have to “make yourself”… You can follow whatever your heart desires and create whatever resonates with you as a symbol of your love and self-care. I give you the creative space, teach you the tools and you do the rest. You could make a little bowl or mat, or any creative form you can dream up. Needle felting doesn’t really lend itself to making clothes (unless they’re miniature)!
Is this one of those intense navel gazing type things?
I get it… signing up to something where you’re being asked to get deep and meaningful can feel uncomfortable when you don’t know me or the others in the circle. We do delve deep into self-reflection and self-caring, and co-creating a nurturing space together. However, there is NEVER an expectation that anyone will share beyond what they are comfortable with. And we will take the time to create a safe space where everyone can feel heard and seen without the weight of comment or judgement.
Urgh! Toxic positivity? No thanks!
I’ve got a huge radar for toxic positivity which comes in the form of “here’s the answer to your deepest struggles” or “just say this mantra daily and you’ll suddenly feel great”. There’s a lot of folks out there offering some form of quick fix to the complex journey of being ourselves in this big world. I’m not one of them! So expect encouragement and support to journey gently within to gift yourself a few moments of connection without any spoken or unspoken pressure to “be” anything other than just how you are.
I’ve got my own materials. Do I get a discount?
Yes! If you’ve got all the materials you need, please get in touch for a discount code to apply at checkout.
Just a friendly reminder - we’ve only got a few places available… so you best get to it if you want a spot. The last workshop sold 8 places in 4 days!
